Psalter: Week 2
Hello Dear Brother and Sister, Welcome to the Daily Catholic Readings for October 4, 2024. Today we have an important message from God from the readings. Humility before God is a blessing for us. Today we are called to pray for Humility in our life. Come let’s dive into the Word of God for more clarity.
Daily Catholic Readings
First Reading | Job 38:1, 12-21; 40:3-5 |
Response | Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting |
Gospel | Luke 10:13-16 |
First Reading
Job 38:1, 12-21; 40:3-5
The Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: “Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand out like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken. “Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this. “Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness, that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home? You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great! Then Job answered the Lord and said: “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.”
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 139:1-3, 7-8, 9-10, 13-14ab (R. 24b)
R/. Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting
O Lord, you search me and you know me.
You yourself know my resting and my rising,
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You mark when I walk or lie down;
you know all my ways through and through. R/.
O where can I go from your spirit,
or where can I flee from your face?
If I climb the heavens, you are there.
If I lie in the grave, you are there. R/.
If I take the wings of the dawn
or dwell at the sea’s furthest end,
even there your hand would lead me;
your right hand would hold me fast. R/.
For it was you who formed my inmost being,
knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I thank you who wonderfully made me;
how wonderful are your works. R/.
Gospel Acclamation
Psalm 95:8
V/. Alleluia
R/. Alleluia
V/. Today, harden not your hearts but listen to the voice of the Lord
R/. Alleluia.
Gospel
Luke 10:13-16
At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
Today’s Reflection
The Words of Jesus in the gospel is very strong about the cities. He explains the seriousness of the situations there. Sinful is better than non-faithfulness. Sinners can repent and mend their ways but non-faithful people can become indifferent and complacent. We also like the people of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum have countless opportunities to encounter God through the sacraments, prayer and acts of love, yet do we really recognize God. We too are becoming more selfish in action, indifferent in attitude, we need to find the example of humility before God like Job in the first reading. Humble acceptance can bring us close to God.
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Grant me the grace to humble myself before you. Help me to trust in Your divine plan, even when I do not understand it. Like Saint Francis, may I seek simplicity and find joy in serving You and my neighbors. Give me the strength to turn back to You in repentance and to follow Your will with a heart full of love. Amen
Saint of the Day: St. Francis of Assisi
Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic Church. Known for his radical poverty, love for creation, and commitment to peace, Saint Francis lived a life of humility, much like Job. He saw all of creation as a reflection of God’s glory and spent his life serving the poor and spreading the Gospel.
Daily Gratitude
Beloved Brother and Sister, Please take a moment to thank God for the beauty of creation, recognizing that everything we have is a gift from Him. Offer a prayer of gratitude for the people and blessings in your life, and for the example of Saint Francis, who showed us how to live in harmony with God and nature.
Thank you for joining me to reflect the Word of God with me. My Hearty Wishes for you have a fruitful and joyous day. Stay Blessed.
