Catholic Homily for October 2, 2025
Hello Respected Reader, Catholic homily for today is based on,
Guided by Angels, Urgent Call to Childlike Faith
Praise be to Jesus Christ, our Lord
A little girl once told her father, “I’m never afraid at night because I know someone is standing beside my bed.” The father, surprised, asked, “Who stands by you, my child?” She smiled and whispered, “My guardian angel. I can’t see him, but I know he’s there.”
Yes, dear reader, The innocence of a child has a way of reminding us of truths that adults too easily dismiss. Children trust without hesitation. They believe in God’s care even in darkness.
In today’s gospel, Matthew 18, the disciples argue over who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus answers not with power or prestige but by placing a child before them. “Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Greatness in God’s eyes is not about status but humility and trust. Later He says, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father.” Here, Jesus assures us that every child, every soul, has an angel who stands in God’s presence interceding and guarding.
The Bible often reveals God’s angels as messengers and protectors. In Exodus 23:20, God says, “I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” In the book of Tobit, Raphael guides Tobias safely on his journey and heals his father’s blindness. These stories show that God never abandons His people. The same care continues in the New Testament when Jesus teaches about guardian angels watching over the least of His children.
St. Jerome once said, “How great the dignity of the soul, since each one has from birth an angel commissioned to guard it.” Pope Benedict XVI reflected that angels are “a sign of God’s loving care,” reminding us that no one is ever truly alone. St. Therese of Lisieux, with her childlike faith, saw angels as companions on the little way of trust and love. On this feast, the Church invites us to rediscover this ancient truth: God’s protection surrounds us through His angels.
Living the Gospel in Daily Life
The message of guardian angels is not just for children. It is for parents worried about their children’s safety, for students struggling with studies, for workers traveling long distances, for the sick lying in hospital beds, and for the elderly who feel forgotten. In each of these moments, God’s angels stand close, unseen but active.
In family life, when tempers rise, we can remember the humility of the child Jesus praised and ask our angel for help. At work or school, when pride pushes us to compete for recognition, the Gospel calls us back to childlike simplicity. In relationships, when grudges harden our hearts, the presence of angels reminds us that heaven is close, urging us toward forgiveness.
Challenge from Today’s Gospel
Jesus’ words also carry a warning: “Do not despise one of these little ones.” To dismiss, neglect, or harm the vulnerable is to stand against God’s own messengers. The challenge is clear: Are there people in our lives we look down on or ignore? Do we allow pride, prejudice, or indifference to blind us to the dignity of others? The angels who guard them stand before God. One day, we will answer not only for how we treated the strong but also how we cared for the least.
Today’s Prayer
Lord Jesus, You teach us the way of humility and trust. Thank You for the gift of our guardian angels who watch over us each day. Help us to live with childlike faith, never despising the little ones, but honoring You in every soul. Amen.
