A reading from the Prophet Zechariah.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold, your king comes to you, just and saving, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
He shall remove the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; the warrior’s bow shall be broken. He shall speak peace to the nations, and his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth.
The Word of the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13-14
Response: I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.
I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever.
Response: I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and His compassion is over all His works.
Response: I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.
Let all your works praise you, O Lord, and let your faithful ones bless you. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power.
Response: I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord lifts up all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.
Response: I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.
Second Reading: Romans 8:9, 11-13
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.
Brothers and sisters, you are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the Spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him.
If the Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the One who raised Christ from the dead will give life also to your mortal bodies through His Spirit dwelling in you.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
The Word of the Lord.
Alleluia: Matthew 11:25
Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned and have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him.
Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
Reflection for Today
Today’s Gospel gives one of the most comforting invitations of Jesus: “Come to me.” He does not call only the strong, the perfect, or the successful. He calls the tired, the burdened, the weak, and the wounded.
The king in the first reading comes humbly, not with violence or pride. In the Gospel, Jesus reveals the heart of that humble King. He does not add weight to our life. He gives rest. He teaches us to carry life with Him, not alone.
Saint Paul reminds us that Christian life is not lived merely by human strength. The Spirit of God dwells in us. When we allow the Spirit to lead us, our burdens do not disappear immediately, but our heart receives strength, direction, and peace.
Today, Jesus is asking us to bring our tiredness to Him. Not to hide it. Not to pretend. Just bring it. The Lord who is meek and humble of heart knows how to give rest to the soul.
Prayer of the Day
Lord Jesus, I come to You with my burdens, my worries, and my tired heart. Teach me to trust You more deeply. Make my heart meek and humble like Yours. Give me rest, peace, and strength to follow You today. Amen.
